Tests Available - Friction Testing

The friction that exists between adjacent cartons that are stacked awaiting  feed onto a filling line  can have an effect upon the performance of the stack.  If the friction changes it is possible that either two or no cartons are fed onto the line.

The Newton Carton Tester allows the user to measure this parameter.

The large picture shows the friction tester attachment that is attached to the moving table.  The details below this show (from left to right):

  1. The first carton sample clamped to the test bed.
  2. The second samples attached underneath the sled and placed on the first test sample.
  3. A close up of the screen showing results of the test.

Again, the results of the friction tests are stored in an access database for future reference & analysis.

As the table rises, the sled and a sample will slide away and the angle at which the slide occurs is called the ‘Slip Angle’ which is directly related to the coefficient of friction.

Use of the friction tester can help to eliminate downtime caused by incorrect feed of cartons onto the filling line.

The Newton Carton Tester can deliver analysis on a wide variety of Packaging parameters. Use the links below to view details of these analyses:

Proctor & Gamble and Unilever have used the Newton Carton Tester for many years..

.

Many of their suppliers have also used the Newton Carton Tester to ensure that their cartons meet the specifications set.
